Bethel Woods hosts anniversary adjacent to original
site
Several 40th Anniversary Woodstock commemorative concerts
were planned but scrapped. Most had little or no credible connection
to the original event. One exception is being staged just a few
hundred yards from the site the stage occupied those August days in
1969. The Bethel Woods performing arts center sold all
15,000 tickets to it's event, pricing lawn seats at a fan friendly
$19.69. The concert opened with 15 year-old Conrad Oberg
doing what Hendrix had 40 years ago near the festival's end -
The Star Spangled Banner. Acts with connections to
the '69 concert included Canned Heat, Jefferson Starship (the
Airplane was at Woodstock), Tom Constanten (with the
Grateful Dead in '69), Big Brother & The Holding Company (Janis
had left them by Woodstock), 10 Years After, Country Joe
McDonald, John Sebastian and Melanie.
