Several decades but
only a few hundred yards from the spot where his band made history in
1965, Paul McCartney took the stage at Citi Field last
night (7/17). The
Beatles historic concert at Shea Stadium came the
year after it was built. McCartney broke in the new home
of the Mets in its first season. There to help him do it on
I Saw Her Standing There was Billy Joel, who
McCartney joined on stage when the Piano Man did the last
concert at Shea. Paul covered all the bases last
night during a 21/2 hour
set that included songs he played 44 years ago, ones from all
phases of the Beatles, his years with Wings and his solo
projects. The Spartan staging and primitive sound of 1965 gave way
to state of the art audio and video, including scenes from the
Beatles Rock Band [story]
during Got to get You Into My Life.
