Speculation in a British
tabloid
that the Michael Jackson will would
return the remaining rights to Beatles songs he owns to Paul
McCartney has been debunked - and the former Beatle says he
never believed it. Some of the same sites that bought into the
original rumor are apparently now claiming that McCartney was
"devastated" to find out that he was omitted from the will. A
post from Paul on his web site says those reports are as bogus
as the original story. The brief statement closes with, "At
times like this, the press do tend to make things up, so occasionally,
I feel the need to put the record straight".
Jackson bought the rights to much of the Beatles song
catalog in 1984 for a reported 46 million dollars. He
relinquished control of a significant portion of it to offset some of
his mounting debt in recent years.
