A claim in a book by a
one-time roadie that Jimi Hendrix died as a result of foul play
was given credence by a doctor who attempted to revive the guitarist,
according to a report at Times Online. The book,
Rock Roadie by James Wright, contends that manager
Michael Jeffrey hired men to pour wine and force sleeping pills
down Jimi's throat. The doctor, John Bannister,
who had no idea who Hendrix was, called the quantities of wine
inside of Hendrix even after substantial amounts had been
vomited "massive". Wright claims Jeffrey confessed
the plot to him shortly before the manager died in a plane crash.
According to the book, Jeffrey had taken out a substantial life
insurance policy on Hendrix, and decided to have him taken out after
the guitarist gave him reason to think he was planning to change
managers.
