Large gathering at crosswalk on anniversary
Millions of fans have retraced
the steps the Beatles took crossing the intersection near
Abbey Road Studios on August 8 of 1969.
Thousands were compelled to be there this morning at 11:35, the moment
the photo that became the cover of Abbey Road was snapped.
It was picture 5 of the 6 that were taken that morning by a
photographer on a step ladder. In contrast to the minor
disruption the original session which lasted only about 10 minutes
caused, today's impromptu event closed the street for over an hour
while thousands of people did the crossing, followed by a quartet
wearing clothing like John, Paul, George and Ringo had
on the morning 40 years earlier.
