Neil Young is turning to Kickstarter to supplement funding to launch his ultra fidelity music format and player, both of which are named Pono.  The March 15 launch of the online campaign will offer people kicking-in some bucks a special discount on the reported $399 price of the player when it becomes available.  Young says the superior to mp3 and wav format he has developed is '...about the music, real music' and adds that the PonoPlayer will be '...the world's greatest sounding, user-friendly music player' available. The player is expected to sport 128GB of on-board storage augmented by a memory card slot that can boost that capacity significantly. It is not yet clear how much larger than high sample rate mp3 or wav files the Pono file of the same song will be or whether Young is overstating the degree of difference the average user will experience when he says tat hearing a song of Pono for the first time will be '...like that blast of daylight when you leave a movie theater on a sun-filled day'.
