Peter
Green Anthology
Fleetwood Mac originated as a blues band,
largely due to the influence of Green, who was a member of John
Mayall's Blues Breakers until being replaced by Eric Clapton. Green regrouped, thanks in part
to drummer Mick Fleetwood, who he had played with in The Peter B's
with Pete Bardens before joining Mayall. The two formed
Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac, inviting guitarists Jeremy
Spencer and Danny Kirwan to join, making it one of the few
groups with three guitarists.
Green's influence on the sound of Fleetwood Mac was as profound as
Syd
Barrett's during the early years of Pink Floyd. Unfortunately, that was not all they had in
common. Green's drug use eventually pushed him over the edge,
causing him to withdraw from the public eye. Fortunately, he
collected himself enough to avoid Barrett's fate.
The 50 songs collected on this anthology are a fascinating chronicle of
one of the world's most famous bands before they became globally known.
Success often obliterates roots. This anthology does a fine job
of making sure that won't happen with Fleetwood Mac.
